My posting will be more sporadic than usual for the rest of the year - keep checking back or add Trader-X to your favorite RSS reader.
I still plan to make a post about Moving Averages soon (as well as a few other promised topics)...apologies for the repeated delays. On a related note, I added additional links to more charts on the post "Fibonacci lines, indicators, and the Holy Grail".
Random free giveaway!
I won a $50 iTunes gift card this past weekend, but truth be told I have a lot of credit at the iTunes store right now because of past gifts, et cetera. So I decided to share the wealth and give it away!
Below I post the opening lines from a book (we all remember books, right?). I am giving the gift card to the first person who can email me* and tell me the name of the book and the author. It would be cool if you knew the name and author without looking it up on Google (meaning you have actually read the book). But I have no way to monitor that.
Note - I can only mail to addresses in the U.S. - sorry guys. I will do something where everyone is eligible later in the month.
*only email answers count - don't post in comments. You can find my email address on the blog (it is not blatantly obvious, but you can find it in a few minutes of digging).
Warning - some language is NSFW and may be offensive to some (though I am not sure why you are reading my blog if this language offends you!):
"Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suit on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on Sunday night. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose life . . . But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?"
edit - I was impressed that I received a dozen emails in the span of a half hour...I have notified the winner, and thanks to everyone else who participated. The answer is "Trainspotting" by Irvine Welsh (note to a few of you - John Hodge wrote the screenplay for the movie).

X Man,
I think that would be "Trainspotting".

Brilliant book and movie.
A $50 iTunes gc? Damn that is sweet.
Haven't read or seen Trainspotting but heard it was great.

X, thanks for the previous response. Hopefully, you will find the time to answer my next questions:
A lot of professional traders are reluctant to disclose their trading system because once it becomes well known it stops working. Are you not afraid that your system will become useless? And if not, why do you think it will continue to make money? Is it still producing profits for you?
Thanks again, Steve
i though it was the beginning of artie lange's new book
Steve - I have been writing about how I trade for over five years and have never had an issue.
Joshua - good one. Great book by the way, I finished it earlier this week.
